A 40-year-old Manny Pacquiao soundly defeated Keith Thurman. Say it. It rolls off the tongue nicely.
Forget all the alphabet title nonsense attached to the fight. The fact that Pacquiao managed to seize the moment against a young, talented (and undefeated) fighter like Thurman is impressive at this stage. And it wasn’t a half-bad fight, either.
The rest of the card, however…
We’re trying not to pick on Premier Boxing Champions, here; basically every major promoter/platform has a glaring issue in 2019. From production and technical problems, to reinforcing promotional factions and warring, boxing is in a weird spot. But it just happened, to it’s still quite fresh.
In other words, don’t let Pacquiao’s win distract from how awful the Pay-Per-View was in general.
But where does this leave the welterweight division? Could they possibly try to make Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao II? Has anyone checked on Keith Thurman’s wife since last night?
In this episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, Brin-Jonathan Butler and Patrick Connor talk Pacquiao-Thurman, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, PED testing in boxing and perhaps more than anyone truly wanted to hear about anything.
